Student Health Insurance is mandatory for all 快活影院 Illinois students under the following conditions:
- Students taking 9 or more credit hours with at least one on-ground class.
- Students taking 9 or more credit hours completing an internship.
- All graduate assistants under contract with WIU.
The WIU student health insurance program is here to assist you on your educational journey. We don鈥檛 want unexpected illness, injuries, or even mental health concerns to keep you from your goals. Our plan is affordable, and it can help you have peace of mind.
GOOD NEWS! While other institutions are seeing significant increases for student health insurance, 快活影院 is happy to announce that the cost for the 2025-2026 school year for our plan is staying the same as it was last year.
The total cost is $1,061.00 per semester. **NOTE: This is for 6 months of health insurance coverage. This averages out to less than $180.00 per month for excellent health benefits.
YOU & BEU: When you are enrolled in WIU student health insurance, you have a unique relationship with our onsite Prompt Care- Beu Health Center. Nearly all services at Beu are 100% reimbursable for students enrolled in the WIU plan. This includes doctor's visits, x-rays, lab, and pharmacy. Even outside of Beu, doctor visit copays are only $25.00!
Waiver Process
Domestic students who can provide sufficient proof of acceptable health coverage (plan must be Affordable Care Act compliant and have a deductible of $1,500 or less) can submit a . Before you submit a waiver request you will need to confirm your WIU email account with AHP. Students approved for Fall term will not need to submit a waiver for Spring or Summer terms in the same academic year.
Waivers are required each academic year (Fall - Summer). Waivers are to be submitted during the established waiver period:
- Fall-approved waivers are valid for Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.
- Spring-approved waivers are valid for Spring and Summer semesters.
- Summer term-approved waivers are only good for the Summer term.
If a student's waiver request is denied, that decision is final and valid for the duration of the term (Fall, Spring/Summer, Summer). Students may submit a new waiver request in an upcoming term.
Fall 2025 waiver period is open June 2, 2025 to September 10, 2025.
Financial Aid
Student health insurance is included as a component of the estimated expenses in the University cost of attendance. While it is mandatory for students to have health insurance coverage, financial aid may be available to help cover the expense. Students who can provide sufficient proof of acceptable health coverage will have the opportunity to go through a waiver process. Including health insurance as part of the estimated expenses ensures that students are aware of the potential cost and can make informed decisions about their health coverage options while attending WIU.
