In March, the chapter held its annual "Delta Hoopsilon" event. The three-on-three men's and women's basketball event and accompanying ticket raffle raised over $2,000 for local charities and the International Fraternity's Global Service Initiative (GSI).
Last April, with the assistance of local resident Bob Moore, the chapter presented a $818 check to Saint Paul School Principal Mrs. Laura Cody to help with the school's programs. This project allows members and supplies to be sent to Jamaica to build houses, churches, schools and other critical infrastructures. This year marks the twelfth year that the WIU chapter has participated in this initiative.
The Global Service Initiative (GSI) represents a dual role for Delta Upsilon, serving as its international philanthropy and an international service project. Delta Upsilon believes in creating a fraternity for the modern college student. This includes preparing them for success in an ever-changing and growing global environment by developing global awareness and cultural competencies.
Delta Upsilon, founded in 1834 at Williams College, is the sixth oldest men's college fraternity and the first to be founded as non-secret. The WIU chapter has been an active fraternity on campus since 1972, chartered in 1974 and has over 900 alumni and members who have been a part of the organization's history at WIU.
